Skipper's Mate was developed by a UK company established in 1983 - Project Computers Ltd. Project Computers is a software house and systems integrator. The majority of our products are B2B. Our clients include many blue-chip companies and banks world-wide (see the Project Computers About page).

The Story of Skipper's Mate
We may, at some stage, embroider this web site with our personal tales of how we ended up producing software for boats - and, probably, bore you in the process. Some of you from the YBW forum will know about Colin's heart fart which led to this fun project. Let's just say that Colin had a break from the day-job and amused himself by producing this.

Unfortunately ...
The problems with international trade caused by Brexit made it impossible to source hardware and so we decided we could no longer supply complete systems. Users of the free software were forced to use a wide range of alternative hardware so the Support Forum became too time-consuming to continue.

The software is available as free Open Source (see Downloads page from menus) and you are welcome to download and use it.

Open Source FREE Software
We remain convinced supporters of Open Source free software and have changed the method for you to obtain the free software version and now offer an image ready to burn or a much smaller download which requires you to install various Linux packages and compile the Skipper's Mate software. It comes with extensive pdf documentation to allow you to use your own hardware and create Skipper's Mate for your Boat Central Unit and, should you wish, Central Server. .
